I was just wondering where you are at. We live in Oswego.
Yesterday I was in a little store in my neighborhood that sells Jewish stuff, and saw a girl walking around wearing the pink Ready For Fun jacket. I knew it was an AG jacket because my doll is wearing the same thing. I wanted to go up to her and say *I know that's an American Girl jacket. Which dolls do you have? Did you get that at AGPC?* But I resisted. I hope I didn't stare too much but I probably did. She did not have a doll with her and was with her brother which was close to her age, and her mom was in the store looking around.
Does anyone ever get the urge to say something to a stranger when you see AG? Do you? I didn't want them to think I was some sort of weirdo or something. I really wanted to say something but I just couldn't.

Well, in my head I'm freaking out like, "Ohmygosh they have an AG doll!!!" but I don't say anything to the person. A lot of times (if I'm with my mom, or someone else who knows how much I love AG), I'll whisper over to who I'm with and be like, "[Their name], look! They have an American Girl doll!" I usually just smile to myself and think "How cute!" if I see a little girl with her AGs. When I was in NY I saw girls EVERYWHERE with their dolls, and my best friend and I kept whispering back and forth about which ones they had. "(Oh look, there's Felicity! Hey, she has Kirsten! Cool!)"
I usually don't say anything since I'm an adult (albeit a young adult), but I think the moms (and kids) would probably think I'm nuts! Unless, that is, they were a HB member like us!
I've never seen anyone else with an AG doll aside from my cousins when we were younger.
My daughter brings Kirsten to the bookstore and grocery store sometimes and a few times she has been with us to restaurants.
But I've never seen someone else. If someone did come up to me and ask about Kirsten it wouldn't weird me out or anything. I'd actually get pretty happy there is another AG lover out there! [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">This is what I've found! I'm not shy to compliment girls on their dolls. I usually say something if a girl is holding a doll. I worked at a museum last summer and we had an AG doll or two come through, so I always commented on it and the girl is always flattered by the attention. I also see AG dolls on airplanes all of the time, and I've smiled and said "I like your Samantha!" [it's *always* Samantha!] and usually the girl will be pleasantly surprised and flattered by the attention.Originally posted by trvnbrn:
We have had nothing but positive experiences, so next time you see a girl w/ her AG, feel free to comment/compliment. It will make her day.

Once i had an urgent need for a restroom and had to use the filthy one in the train station. When i walked in i found 2 dolls sitting on the ledge over the sink but no "mommies" were in sight. I just sort of stood there and guarded them until the girls returned. I was dying to tell them not to leave their dolls alone like that but i didn't say anything. But there's no way those little girls should have been allowed to go into that restroom alone.
The only time I've seen an AG in public was the winter before I got Kit. I wanted her badly. My friend and I were in the Coach outlet. A little girl had Kit, dressed in her Christmas dress and coat. I said, "Look Kristin, she has Kit!" The little girl's eyes almost came out of her head. Her mom just smiled and said something about not being able to afford Coach because of Kit and her neccessities. We talked for quite a while, about Kit and about my mom's Kaya. She let me hold her Kit, and that was the first time I'd ever had my hands on one. Then I *really* wanted her!
So, I dropped the biggest hint ever a few weeks later on Christmas day, and my mom came through on my birthday in March with Kit & Coconut too!
ETA: DH has seen several AGs in public. He travels a lot, so he sees them on planes, in rest areas and in churches. Imagine the little girls' faces when a 300 pound powerlifter knows the difference between Josefina and Samantha!

I haven't, but I wouldn't say anything. I HATE it when people talk to me, so I never start a conversation.
